Homeroom 101

our new series will be hosted exclusively on our Black Educators Matter website. Our goal is to create a space for students to speak on the power of having Black educators! We will discuss the influences and impacts, reflect on the lightbulb moments, and highlight the important roles that educators play in all of our lives.

homeroom 101: s1 e2 Frey B.

“Connecting with music, life and pain, that’s what brings me joy. Yes, they’re teachers, but they are also human beings.”

High school student Frey B., is on a journey for self discovery and empowerment. She’s never had a Black educator, and found BEM through doing online research. For Frey, Black educators represent hope and change, and provide the advocacy and visual representation that she’s looking for. In her episode, she shares why Black educators matter (0:44 mark), speaks on the challenges she’s grown through as she adjusted to her new life in the US after being adopted, and shares a message of gratitude for her Basketball Coach (14:12 mark).
