Black Educators Matter is a nonprofit organization designed to create an ecosystem for Black educators globally. Through engagement and podcasting, we will document our stories and harness our collective power to enact change and make excellence equitable. Together, we will build long lasting, affirming, unapologetically Black relationships, rooted in celebrating educators.
why do
black educators matter?
RESEARCH SHOWS THAT ALL STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM HAVING BLACK TEACHERS, YET LESS THAN 20% OF TEACHERS IN THE U.S. ARE BLACK… WITH BLACK MEN BEING ONLY 2% OF THE TEACHER POOL. WE KNOW THAT THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IS WORKING THE WAY THAT IT WAS DESIGNED TO WORK – IT IS INHERENTLY RACIST. WE KNOW THAT TEACHERS ARE GROSSLY UNDERPAID, UNDER APPRECIATED, AND OVERWORKED – AND THAT MINORITY TEACHERS ARE EVEN MORE MARGINALIZED. RESEARCH PROVES THAT ACCESS TO ONE BLACK EDUCATOR CAN HAVE LIFE CHANGING IMPACTS ON A CHILD, A FAMILY, A SCHOOL. WE KNOW THAT EDUCATORS ARE THE BACKBONE OF THE COMMUNITY. WE KNOW THAT BLACK EDUCATORS MATTER.

PROJECT 500
We began with the goal of sharing the stories of 500 Black educators. We are working to restore prestige to the profession, and increase the number of young professionals pursuing a career in education.
This series is a thought provoking, hilarious, vulnerable and empowering look into the chaos behind the classroom, the challenges of the industry, and the journey of an educator.

Our goal is to create a space for students to speak on the power of having Black educators!
We will discuss the influences and impacts, reflect on the lightbulb moments, and highlight the important roles that educators play in all of our lives.

At Black Educators Matter, we are committed to supporting educators who go above and beyond for their communities. We believe that educators play a crucial role in shaping the future of our society, and we are dedicated to providing them with the resources they need to make a difference. Our organization is proud to host events such as basket drives, which help to provide essential supplies and resources. Also, our annual Bonfire event that allows educators to connect, recharge, and relax. By supporting our educators, we are able to create a brighter future for our children and build stronger, more resilient communities.
