Season 1 Episode 84

Dr. Cheers: Dr. Imani Cheers

How do you make sure that you are able to decipher information in a time when there are things thrown at you 24/7/365…?

Dr. Imani Cheers

Associate Director, Associate Professor of Digital Storytelling

“See the beauty of the Black experience…”

She wrote her dissertation on Living Single. She grew up reading her father’s articles in Jet and Ebony. How did she combine her creativity, love of television and journalism to design an amazing career in the classroom?? This week, Dr. Imani Cheers is breaking down the intersection between education, television and race, media literacy, and the power of our stories and owning our narratives.

“You yearn to create the spaces that you wish you had…”

As the only full time Black female on faculty (and the only faculty with a PhD on the journalism side), Imani reflects on the impact she has on campus. She also speaks on the costs of the pandemic, the gaps that will continue to grow, and why it is important to learn how to say no.

Tune in to learn more about her Mentor Moments, and why she is driven to continue paying it forward (#Shoutout to that 300% increase!).
