Welcome to The Great Fight!

Welcome Back, Educators!

We hope you had a renewing, rewarding summer, filled with doing things that brought you joy and restoration. It’s been a few months since we’ve connected, and we are so excited to return to documenting educator stories, creating space for community building, and encouraging you to keep up your incredibly impactful work (now more than ever before).Ā

We have a new look, but the mission remains the same. We center and celebrate the impact of Black educators, acknowledging the value you bring to education across generations… after all, you built the blueprint! Check out our refreshed website www.blackeducatorsmatter.org, and feel free to email us with your educator nominations as we continue the journey to document 500 Black educator stories.

This season, we look forward to uplifting, connecting, and celebrating you.Ā

Ā

“I strive to be the educator that my younger self needed.”

In this enlightening episode, we are honored to welcome Dr. Gregory Ross, a dynamic leader and educator, who shares his powerful journey from a young boy in Paducah, Kentucky, to the president of the West End School in Louisville. Dr. Ross reflects on the profound influence of his mother and other educators, particularly highlighting the importance of representation in education and how it shaped his belief in the potential of every child.

Lauren’s World

Educators, how y’all feeling? Paras, y’all all right?Ā šŸ˜„šŸ˜„šŸ˜„.

As much as I love September (#VirgoSeason) Some days don’t go as planned—lessons flop, energy dips, or the roster’s just too full. It’s all good. Every day is a new chance to reset, recharge, and show up as the amazing educator you are.

The song that randomly pumped me up? ā€œSurvivorā€ by Destiny’s Child.Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Y’all remember that bop?
ā€œI’m a survivor, I’m not gon’ give up, I’m not gon’ stop, I’m gon’ work harder.ā€

No matter how your year started, let these lyrics remind you: you are resilient, capable, and enough. Press play, take a deep breath, and show up for your students- and yourself.Ā
Ā

And…Ā  please join us in wishing a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the
resident Virgo of the BEM Team, Ms. LGG!
