Welcome to The Great Fight!

Greetings, Educators!

October is filled with reasons to celebrate! Homecoming/Spirit Weeks at your schools, Hoodoo Heritage Month, Indigenous People’s Day, National Mentoring Day and Halloween, just to name a few! As the weather cools off and the nights grow longer, we hope you are finding ways to encourage yourself and stay centered in your “why” (here is an inspirational video that Danielle’s mentor shared with her to encourage her to ALWAYS remember her why!.) We are sending you love, power and perseverance, and we aren’t the only ones! Here are some of the words of affirmation that our BEM Bonfire attendees wrote for you!

“You gotta get out there… you gotta use your voice.”

“I am beautiful. I am capable. I am a good educator.”

Hello, Educator Affirmations! On this week’s episode, we are joined by high school english teacher Darrian Tanner. A recently published author and instructional mentor, Darrian has spent 11 years building her legacy within education, and is incredibly transparent as she reflects on her journey into the classroom. Join us as we discuss building confidence (#Shoutout to your East St. Louis accent!!), connecting curriculum to purpose, and why mentorship for teachers is so important. A lesson we can all learn from this episode… would be to follow your dreams, and speak power over yourself – you might be surprised where your innate gifts will take you. Teach us, Ms. Tanner!

What’s happening in the BEM World?

Lauren’s Musical Moment:
Hey y’all! It’s time to break out the crockpots for some fall meals.  I’m gonna keep this short and sweet. It’s my favorite season, and although I’m ready for hoodies and scary movies, a few of our icons have joined the ancestors. Among those, the amazing Frankie Beverly was one of them, which is why I’m dedicating my song of the month to him. Golden Time of Day is not only a feel good song, but it hits even harder because he’s not here ❤️🖤💚.
